“Loving God, Learning His Word, Living for Christ, Leading Others to do Likewise”

Reclaiming That Which is Lost…

Joel 2:25: “The LORD says, ‘I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you.’”

The intent and purpose of this parenting article is to deliver “carats of gold” as deposits to refocus and shape our parenting for best results.  It is to remind us of the task at hand in raising a generation.  It also reminds us faithfully to Whom we will answer on our stewardship of this awesome responsibility.  Psalm 127:3: “Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from Him.”

This article began when there was a cry to find something that had been lost.  Teachers, coaches, parents, and children seemed to have lost their way and were exasperated.  There was a reasonable belief that it had not always been this way.  Joel in the above Scripture is referring to the judgment of God because a people had turned from Him.  We must know the way to find our way back to our godly childrearing.  George Barna is a well-known researcher who focuses on the emphasis of Christianity on individuals, families, communities, and, ultimately, a nation.  Someone recently shared with me an article that addressed his survey of “professing” Christian parents.  This might give us some valuable insight to how we have wandered off the beaten path and why our culture is in the shape it is in.    You can find this entire article at “Barna: Survey of ‘Christian’ parents should shame the Church.”

The bad news is “in a related article about the parent survey, The Christian Post notes that only a few percentage points separate the views of self-identified Christians from parents who are not.”  The Bible clearly instructs parents to teach their children about the Lord.

“So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors.”

Deuteronomy 11:18-21

Barna concludes, “Millions of parents are clearly confused about who they are and what they believe.” Barna said in a statement, “In their efforts to shape their children, they can only give what they have. Many children are not interested in receiving a scrambled philosophy of life.”

The Words of Christ from Luke 12:48: “But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.”

America’s foundation, resources, and freedoms leave us without excuse.
