How did we get here? How do we make sense of it all? What will our children experience as we move forward under the current climate of our nation? How do we protect them, prepare them and help them grow?
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.”
Romans 8:28 (NLT)
We find hope that God can and will cause it to work together for their good; however, it is required that we have eyes to see and ears to hear what God has to say. A “worldview” is “a particular philosophy of life or conception of the world”– it is the glasses through which we see the world. How can we prepare our children to take a stand for that which is right against a strong tide of opposition? What is “right”? We must feed our eyes and ears with “Truth” in order to sift through and find where to stand. Truth comes from God. Many in our nation have in error adopted a worldview that says we do not need God. A Christian Worldview says it is “all” about Him.
We are able to get a glimpse into our children’s soul when we see how they respond to current life events. Imagine with me that there is a bucket with a top on it. We have no way of knowing actually what is in the bucket even if it is labelled. When the bucket gets knocked over, the top comes off and what is in it spills out and now you see and smell what was inside. That analogy can be applied to life. Difficulties often expose what has been hidden. This can be good if we realize our need to turn back to God and His Word and lead our children to do the same. Franklin Graham says, “We need to pray for a mighty work of God in our nation today.”
God’s work is accomplished in the hearts of His people, as told in the words of Jesus:
“For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes— so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them. But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.”
Matthew 13:15-16 (NLT)
One of the strongest indications that we are a nation of families that have turned from God is the weakness of His church. Romans 10:14 (NKJV): “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” Faithful attendance to a local church appears to be “optional;” however, God’s Word says otherwise.
“I am writing to God’s church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.”
1 Corinthians 1:2 (NLT)
The majority of the New Testament is written to churches instructing them on how to honor Christ in their church and individual lives. Where was your family last Sunday morning? Church attendance is a good start to find our way.
