What has been revealed to us in recent months serve to remind us that we must be diligent to pass on to our children that which makes America what it is.  An individual who loses their memory does not know who they are.  It makes sense that the same applies to a nation.  America is a nation that recognizes and depends on God and His Sovereignty.  America acknowledges God as Creator and that humans are made by Him and in His Image.

“So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.”  

Genesis 1:27 (NLT)

God is not made in man’s image, and we can’t change who He is simply by ignoring His Sovereignty.  The U. S. Constitution states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  We must model and teach our children to fear and acknowledge God as having “all” authority over our lives and our nation. 

“Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies. Snake venom drips from their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. They rush to commit murder. Destruction and misery always follow them. They don’t know where to find peace. They have no fear of God at all,” Romans 3:13-18 (NLT). 

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service to the United States of America.  Our law enforcement is in place to protect our God given freedoms acknowledged in our Constitution.  Identify a soldier or officer (past or present) in your family, neighborhood, workplace, etc. and make much over them as your children watch you.   Send a note of encouragement to one who is away from home on duty or who is protecting your community. 

Every grave yard holds the caskets of brave men and women who gave their all.  Our freedoms are not free.  Other’s lives have provided a way for us to live in a country that provides for, protects and defends our liberties.  Our children will benefit greatly from being reminded that we are not “entitled” and that every right and privilege we have was earned by personal sacrifice.   Lives are being lost every day for the cause of freedom across the world. 

Our founding fathers found this nation on Christian principles and the individual liberties we are given by our Creator.  Jesus suffered and died for our ultimate freedom.

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

Freedom is not free.  All of the liberties we enjoy in this great nation had a cost associated with them.  Let us not forget.
