“Loving God, Learning His Word, Living for Christ, Leading Others to do Likewise”

A Parent’s Prayer

What are we to do going forward with Covid 19?  There seem to be so many variables in this new existence.  How can we thrive as individuals and as a family through the changes we are experiencing?  Who are we to listen to?  Who can we trust?

First, let’s acknowledge that even though the information overload speaks to a global issue, our space in this vast world is very small; however, our impact in that small space is huge.  The demands being placed on us are coming from many directions and are often in conflict with one another.  We “can” access a sovereign and holy God that is all knowing, all powerful, yet intimate and longsuffering with our small space.  He knows every detail of our lives (Psalm 139), and the lives of those who depend on us.  He tells us that if we seek Him with our whole heart we will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).  He is all knowing and sovereign over the entire universe…. Acts 4:24 (NLT): When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: “O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them”.

He (God) has got this.  The Apostle Paul in his letter to the church at Colosse shared the prayer that he faithfully prayed on their behalf.  It is a prayer that every parent can faithfully pray and then trust God to lead them through the changes that are already here and that are on the horizon.

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.  We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light.  For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Colossians 1:9-14 (NLT)

Here is a parent’s prayer in agreement with this scripture (from the Life Application Study Bible NLT)…

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for my faith and my changed life.  Please Lord, help me to know Your Will; give me spiritual wisdom and understanding; help me to live to honor and please You; give me more knowledge of You; please empower me with endurance and patience; and fill me with joy and thankfulness.

It is said that “faith is present only in the absence of fear.”  Faith in God must dominate our thinking and be the filter for all other information to pass through.  Psalm 56:3 (NLT): But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.
