Dear Rehoboth Church Family and Friends,
We are reminded of how blessed we are to know the Lord especially in “the day of trouble”. We aren’t the first of God’s people to experience trouble and we won’t be the last. What a blessing that the LORD hears us when we cry out to Him. It is interesting and comforting that we can depend upon the name of the “God of Jacob” to defend us.
Verse seven says, Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: (referring to battle chariots and war horses) but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. What is it that we are to remember about the name of the LORD our God? In verse one He is called “the God of Jacob”. Twenty times in the Bible God is referred to as “the God of Jacob”. What do we remember about Jacob? When we first meet him in Scripture we know him as the conniving, sneaky, birthright-and-blessing-stealing second son of Isaac and Rebekah. But his life is transformed through an encounter with God that in time changes him into the father of the 12 tribes of Israel.
The world can have its horses and chariots, we will remember the name of the Lord our God who is not ashamed to be associated with selfish, insecure, self-seeking sinners like Jacob because He has the power to change a man’s gloom to glory, his sorrows to Sonshine, his night to day. He has the power to open His hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing (Ps. 145:16).
Let’s remember that as we continue to pray and praise Him through all our present and future troubles because… The LORD will hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob can and will defend thee.
